When Joan Wheeler Bennett lived at The Mill House she used to have a vineyard growing varieties of grape originating in northern France and Germany and producing wine. She had most success with the Madeleine Angevine and Madeleine Sylvance grapes. Joan won a prize from the English Vineyards Association in the 1990’s for the label on the left, designed by Joanna Wheeler Bennett. This was never a commercial enterprise as the Customs and Excise Department were regularly told during their regular visits!
