On Coronation Sunday, 7th May 2023, nearly 100 villagers, their friends and family, gathered at Wellington Barn for a picnic lunch. As the weather was forecast was a little uncertain it was decided to hold the it inside the barn rather than outside. In the end the weather was lovely and we went outside to play games, sit and chat, and for the children to explore the surrounding meadows.
Pat Maundrell started proceedings by recollecting his memories of the 1953 coronation celebrations in the village and then proposed a toast and “3 cheers” for the King.
We had a best decorated cake, cookie and crown competitions. Val Hosken and Brigid Harpham were the judges and declared Benita Buckland and Marilyn Price joint winners of the best cake competition (see photo below) and Geoff Buckland winner of the best cookies.
After lunch about 30 adults and children took part in some fun team games which I think were enjoyed by all.
Thanks to Pat, Sandy and Kerry Maundrell for letting us use the barn and to volunteers who helped decorate the barn in the morning and take them all down again at the end.
